The term “at-risk” is used to describe someone who requires temporary or ongoing intervention in order to succeed academically or personally. “At risk” students, also referred to as “at-risk” youth, are adolescents who are less likely to transition successfully into adulthood to achieve economic self-sufficiency.
Characteristics of “at-risk” students include:
emotional or behavioral problems(to include criminal acts)
truancy
below average academic performance
and those expressing a desire to dropout of school
